# 3 5

General Conference:  A semiannual gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During general conference weekend, Church members and others gather worldwide in a series of two-hour sessions to receive inspiration and instruction from Church leaders. Source.

The messages that are shared are inspired and of God which we learn in D&C 1:38 when He says, “whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same”. I know that when the prophet, apostles, relief society president, and any other church leader stands at the pulpit at general conference, they are delivering the messages that God would share with us if He were here today.

To help me prepare for the big weekend in April, today I’m going to start on #35 from my 101 in 1001 list. My goal is to read a general conference talk every day for the next month.  I specifically chose to read them instead of listen to them.  While I enjoy listening to general conference talks and still get a lot out of them, I can tell a difference in retention of the message and the spirit that is felt compared to reading it. My guess is that the difference is because when you are listening to it you can be thinking/doing 100 other things.  When you sit down and read a talk, you give it your full attention.

I am excited to start this and share with you the things I learn along the way!

I realized that I’m obsessive.  First it was Whole30, now it is anatomy.  I fixate on the one thing that is taking up most of my brain and I talk about it nonstop. #sorrynotsorry

Here are some things I’ve learned the first two months of 2015:

+ Eating clean food for 30 days is rough but so worth it.  I must’ve talked/complained about it a lot because there are a few people at work who have embarked on the journey after hearing my nonstop chatter.

+ Ice cream and fries are my stress craving. Hello Oreo malt, nice to meet you.

+ My brain can hold a lot of information at once. When you are taking anatomy at UVU (and yes, UVU is much different than the other anatomy programs. Promise) you are required to memorize a ridiculous amount of material.  Don’t believe me? Well I’ll show you my textbook and then maybe you’ll shut up about how easy this class is. (I’m talking to you girl in my psychology class) Let me complain some more, it’s hard.

+ Showering and getting ready for the day have become a rare occurrence.  So rare that today I’ve had four different people ask if I changed my hair.  Here’s my secret:  shampoo.

+ 8 year olds are a blast and a handful all in one. I have to hold myself back to not be irreverent alongside them.  Last week I failed and couldn’t stop giggling.

+ My husband is a champ. He got accepted into BYU! We are very excited and I’m so proud of him.  Also, he deserves a trophy for being my rock and my sanity.

+ Don’t plan a vacation until you get your husband on your side and there are no variables in play, or you’ll be disappointed.  I had this great plan to go on a cruise at the end of the semester and once Jake was warming up to the idea, he became a BYU student and has stupid spring term. Don’t worry, I’ll be on a mental vacation that week recovering from finals.

+ My midterm is on Saturday. Pro:  means I’m more than half way done with the semester.  Con: I have to take my midterm.

+ Laundry can stay in baskets a long time. If you throw your shirt in the dryer with an ice cube for a few seconds you can’t even tell that the shirt has been in said basket for weeks. #notimeforlaundry

+ Bones, muscles, joints, eyeball, ear, muscles, heart, nerves, brain, and how to get the cadaver smell out of your clothes.

+ I thought that our date nights would stop being filled with the grocery store once the Whole30 was over, but that’s still how it goes.  And guess what? It’s the best date night ever.

+ Living with your best friend is the best thing.  Except when they torture you with freezing feet, constantly scare you, and push you off the bed.  JK.  Even those things are a part of the best thing.

+ Things that force you out of your comfort zone change you.  Anatomy and the Whole30 have shown me that.  I have decided that as much as it’s a love/hate relationship, I’m going to continue this trend.  I’ll be taking a hip hop class this summer.  Dancing and I are not friends. I feel self-conscious and uncomfortable. So I’m going to do it.  YAY.

+ When the stress of life gets to you and you forget that you are beautiful, work selfies are totally acceptable to remind yourself that you're a babe.
